L. PicosClark: Born in Venezuela 1958, of Latin decent. Studies in fine arts, Long Beach State, Advanced Studies at the National Institute for Fine Arts, Esmeralda, Mexico D.F.. Early studies at Cal State was figurative, after five years of life drawing and painting my direction changed to non objective painting and drawing. My early work was bold and of a dark palette; I attribute this to relying on theory and philosophical readings rather life experiences. Having a daughter brought me out of that. I put away my painting for a long period of time to raise my daughter. Graphic design still fed my visual senses, and the challenge of learning something new was in itself rewarding. For the majority of time while running my graphic design studio the ideas of fine art and graphic design were kept as two separate practices. More recently I see the blurring of those lines. Fine art is a complete expression; graphic design is meeting more of a client-based need. Of the two I find different challenges. Graphic design has the challenge of constantly learning new software; fine art has more personal aesthetic challenges.
